Seven years ago on this very day Jon and I made vows to one another, vows to be there for better and for worse, vows to cherish one another, and vows to love and honor one another. Seven years ago today I married my soul mate. From high school sweethearts... to a life together filled with the love of each other and two beautiful little boys who complete our world. Happy Anniversary, love. I look forward to forever!

On Vacation:
Tonight, over dinner at a local ice cream shop, Jon and I discussed whether or not to go back to the same vacation location as last year. We have a busy summer ahead of us, and only have time for a night or two, so this location is perfect for a mini getaway. With a gigantic indoor water park, and beautiful lodging, we all had a wonderful time last year. Well, Shawn was all for this! He remembers all too well how much of a blast we had! So we settled on booking for August here in the near future. As we pulled up to our home Shawn frantically and tearfully choked out "No, no, no... not this home!" For the life of me I couldn't figure out why my son was so upset when normally he is thrilled to be back at his beloved home. "No, no, no... vacation! We are supposed to go to vacation now!!" He was bawling. Poor little guy thought we were heading there tonight. It took a little while to convince him that Daddy's vacation isn't until its very hot outside and we need to wait until then.
On Pepto-bismol like substances:
Cooking was out of the question for me tonight. After battling for two weeks with allergies only to end up with a major infection, on mega doses of antibiotics, and no end in site to the misery, cooking just wasn't an option. So we decided to take the kiddos to a local ice cream freeze for dinner. After our main course, desert followed. The boys each had their baby cones, a chocolate dipped cone for me, and Jon... a tea berry shake. Oh the horror. This is a much acquired taste, as the closest thing to name is... Pepto-bismol. The boys each tried a sip, and shook their heads in dislike. However, Landon... little Landon... was finding that his cone just wasn't enough. He needed to surround himself with ice cream. Stealing Daddy's shake was just the answer. Even though this shake was awful tasting, little Landon just needed more food! This child will forever eat us out of house and home... just like Daddy.
On Super Nanny:
Shawn was easy. So very easy to discipline. Like his mother, he hates being in trouble. He'd rather not be. Time-outs were a breeze. Even at a year old he would sit and do the time for his crime. No need to hold him there, or chase him... he sometimes put himself in the time-out chair! Fast forward two years to Landon. Oh, Mr. Landon. This child does not care how much trouble he gets in. Consequences... they are for the weak! Landon's thought on the whole deal "On the few occasions I act out, there's no need for a production to be made." Well, it turns out there is a reason Super Nanny does what she does. There is a method to it... and folks, it does work! Her time out method may be time consuming for parents of strong willed children. But, the point does get driven home, and the results are wonderful. Landon gave Jon and I each an occasion to use such a method this week. First, for me... it only took four times of putting him back in the corner, and he sat for his 1 minute. For Daddy, well 15 minutes of fighting... call it battle of the wills... but he did get the point. Why was Landon so driven to act out and hit his Daddy? Because he didn't get enough playtime outside, that's why!?

Performance from Shawn.

The other day Aunt Tearsa and Mommy took the boys to the pet store to get them their first beta fish. Landon has quite the obsession with aquatic life, so while we figure out where to put the aquarium and what fish to get, we thought a little table top friend would be nice.

Seven wonderful years My love...Oh the stories we have. But, before our boys, those stories just seemed to pale in comparison to what happens now. Yea, Shawn and Landon are strong willed, but they exert the strength differently. But, they both do one thing well...not listen to Dad. I'm working on it. As for the fish.... I'm a plant person : )
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Glad you had a good day. The boys look like they are getting so big. I had beta fish before they are so neat. We put our one with some other fish (not bright colored ones tho). We miss you all so much. Love you
